Pollution Prevention Intern - Oakland, CA. Save The Bay. Last day to apply is June 25, 2009. It may be surprising to learn that most of the pollution that enters the San Francisco Bay comes from the everyday activities of residents, not from industry. In a few Bay Area cities, effective programs are already in place to reduce this pollution. For example, San Carlos's successful curbside pickup of cell phones and batteries keeps mercury and other heavy metals out of landfills where they leach into the Bay. Oakland, Emeryville and Millbrae have banned Styrofoam carryout containers, which are commonly littered. With over 100 cities surrounding the Bay, these programs must be widespread to be effective. Save The Bay's Clean Bay Project will help more cities adopt these types of programs by offering resources such as case studies, model ordinances, cost estimates, public support and key contacts. The Policy Intern will be a key part of the team implementing this campaign. How to Apply: Email resume and cover letter to Laura Reinhard, Policy Associate at lreinhard@savesfbay.org.Save The Bay is an equal opportunity employer.
