Oh, we love it when college professors bring their students to our gathering! This was the first year that Yamina Pressler (Associate Professor of Soil Science and Restoration Ecology at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo) brought an ENTIRE CLASS to a SERCAL conference (SERCAL 2024) at the University of Redlands. The whole conference buzzed with the students’ enthusiasm — intellectual and heartfelt — and the students seemed pretty jazzed too. :-)
How SERCAL supports our Next Generation Members
WHO IS THE NEXT GENERATION? Any young person — student or emerging professional, especially those from historically under-represented or under-served communities — who are interested in working in our amazing field of endeavor.
WHAT ARE OUR CURRENT PLANS FOR SUPPORTING THE NEXT GENERATION?
One… They can join SERCAL free of charge.
Two… We will automatically waive their conference registration fees for up to 80 Next Gen attendees who present or who volunteer 2–3 hours during non-session time.
Three… Awarding stipends to help defray travel and lodging expenses. (Watch for an announcement in the October Restoration for All for the link to apply.)
Four… Progressively fine-tuning our Mentorship Program.
Five… Encouraging SERCAL members, sponsors, and conference attendees to give generously to The Next Generation Fund and participate in our fundraisers — our year-end Silent Auction and the Conference Raffle — so that we can continue to build upon our efforts in creating opportunities that both transform young lives and our industry…
